Most people whine when they have crappy things... I see it as a license to be creative. If you ruin a crappy thing, it's not a great loss.
We have a crappy house. The wallpaper I am looking at is rather bland, so I'm thinking of ways to "spruce it up".
Here's a few options... a "trompe l'oeil" mural (a style of painting in which things are painted in a way that makes them look like real objects), a collage of various subject choices, paint it black and tag it, or even hang a flat screen TV and leave it on the Aquarium channel...
